How to Sync a Contact's Connections
The real value of a connection is the people it opens up. Across most of your connections, you can see who else they're connected to. With the Icebreaker Chrome extension, you can efficiently navigate that list.
This guide walks through syncing a contact's connections from LinkedIn and optionally viewing them in Icebreaker.
Alternatively, you can ask your contact to export their full LinkedIn connections list and upload it to Icebreaker directly by following this guide.
Before you start
- Install the Icebreaker Chrome extension.
- Sign in to Icebreaker at app.icebreaker.xyz in the same Chrome browser.
Note: Syncing works the same way as browsing a contact's connections yourself on LinkedIn. If the contact has chosen not to share their full connection list, only mutuals can be synced. The Sync connections button doesn't appear on 3rd-degree profiles.
Step 1: Sync connections from LinkedIn
- On LinkedIn, go to your contact's profile.
- Click Sync connections. It's a floating pill-shaped button at the bottom right of the profile page.
- The button changes to Opening connections page... and your current tab switches to the contact's connections list. Icebreaker then works through the list, and the button shows its progress.
- Leave this tab alone until the sync finishes. You can use other tabs while it runs, but don't close this tab or navigate away from it.
- When the sync is done, the button reads Sync complete and a Sync Complete! window appears with the message "Successfully synced N connections." If something goes wrong, the button reads Retry sync instead. Click it to try again.
- To save a copy of the connections, click Download as CSV in the Sync Complete! window.
Step 2: Search the connections
If you've enabled upload to Icebreaker, these connections are uploaded and searchable by you in the app or via MCP in your AI tools. They don't display for unconnected or signed-out users.
